Business Core

The decisions that are expensive to undo: what kind of company to form, where the money comes from, and which software you will still be using in three years.

11 of 101 guides live · more published each week

Most of what goes wrong in a first business is not dramatic. It is a structure chosen because a forum post said so, a loan taken at a rate the owner never compared, or an accounting tool picked in week one and resented ever since. None of those mistakes announce themselves. They just quietly cost money for years.

This section covers those decisions. Formation comes first, because your entity type shapes your tax treatment, your personal liability and how seriously a bank takes you. Then financing, because the cheapest money you will ever borrow is the money you did not need to. Then software, because the tools you choose early set how much of your week goes to admin.

You do not have to read these in order. If you already know you want an LLC, skip to the service comparison. If you are still deciding whether you need one at all, start with the explainer. Every guide says plainly which steps are legally required and which are just common practice - that distinction saves more money than any of our other advice.
